Legacy Girls™ is the first storytelling brand of its kind—period.

✨ Legacy Girls™

Where Black American girlhood takes center stage.

Legacy Girls™ is the first publishing and storytelling brand of its kind—an intergenerational literary world built specifically to reflect, preserve, and celebrate the lives of Black American girls.

We combine powerful fiction, educational tools, heirloom-inspired experiences, and culturally grounded storytelling to uplift a new generation of Black girls with pride in who they are and where they come from.

🖤 The Heart of Our Brand:

Black American girls are not a monolith.

We are soft and strong. Tender and tenacious. Book-smart and streetwise. Creative and cautious.
We come from Sunday kitchens and front porch stories, small towns and big cities, blended families and deep ancestral roots.

And we deserve stories that reflect our full range of brilliance.

For far too long, Black American girlhood has been sidelined, flattened, or generalized. Legacy Girls™ is here to change that—by offering stories that are historically grounded, emotionally rich, and culturally specific to the Black American experience.

🧵 What We Create:

Legacy Girls™ is an interconnected story world told across time.
Each series features a modern Black American girl discovering a powerful heirloom that connects her to an ancestor whose story is revealed in a separate historical book.

These heirlooms—quilts, ledgers, recipes, journals—serve as both plot threads and cultural symbols, passing down wisdom, memory, and pride from one generation to the next.

From Reconstruction to Civil Rights to the modern classroom, Legacy Girls™ centers Black American girls as the heart of their own legacies—not just surviving history, but shaping it.

📚 Our Stories Begin With Stitched: Zaria’s Story

Zaria is a quiet, gifted fifth grader trying to find her voice at a predominantly white school. When her grandmother moves in, she inherits a family quilt stitched by the women who came before her. As each patch unfolds, Zaria discovers that her story isn’t small—it’s stitched into something much bigger.

Stitched: Zaria’s Story is about identity, confidence, cultural pride, and learning how to speak up when you’ve been taught to stay small.

It’s the first of many.

🧶 Our Mission:

“To stitch together legacy, identity, and learning—one Black American girl at a time.”

We believe storytelling can be a form of restoration, and that through stories, Black American girls can learn more than just facts—they can learn who they are, what they carry, and what they’re capable of building.

🏛 Why We Exist:

Legacy Girls™ was created by Tamicka Leonard—a Black mother, attorney, writer, and visionary who grew up searching for stories that felt like hers and rarely found them.

What started as a wound became a vision: to build what was missing.
Not just books. But tools. Worlds. Truths.
Not just for her daughters—but for generations to come.

This brand isn’t trend-driven. It’s legacy-built.

🌿 What Sets Legacy Girls™ Apart:

No other brand—Black or otherwise—offers:

  • An interwoven narrative world connecting modern Black American girls to their historical ancestors

  • Symbolic heirlooms that anchor plot, product, and character arcs

  • Fiction and educational tools working together to deepen identity and literacy

  • A founder-built, mission-led platform rooted in cultural specificity, generational healing, and authentic representation

🧒🏾 Who It’s For:

Legacy Girls™ is for Black American girls, their families, their teachers, and their communities.

It’s for the girl who’s quiet in class but brilliant on paper.
The one who wears her curls proudly—or is still learning to.
The girl who’s never seen her story in a book.
The ones being raised by both parents, one parent, aunties, grandmothers, dads, and village love.
The girl who calls her grandmother Big Mama, Granny, Madea, or Nana.

This is where she’s seen.

🪡 Legacy Is the Thread

We don’t just tell stories—we remember them.
We don’t just celebrate history—we reclaim it.
We don’t just publish books—we pass down pride, identity, and belonging.

This is Legacy Girls™.

Where our girls don’t just read about the past—
They discover they are part of something powerful.
Something stitched.
Something sacred.
Something worth passing on.

Meet the Founder/Author

Tamicka Leonard is a writer, storyteller, and the founder of Legacy Girls™, a brand dedicated to celebrating Black girlhood across generations.

A mother, writer, and visionary, Tamicka creates stories that honor legacy, uplift identity, and spark self-discovery. As an attorney turned creative entrepreneur, she understands the power of storytelling to build confidence, reclaim space, and shift what feels possible.

Legacy Girls™ was born from a deeply personal place—a desire to give her daughters and girls everywhere the stories she wished she had growing up. Stories where Black girls are centered, not sidelined. Stories stitched with faith, history, and quiet strength. Stories that remind every reader she’s part of something bigger.

Tamicka draws inspiration from her Southern roots, her role as a mother, and her lifelong love of storytelling. Her debut middle grade novel, Stitched: Zaria’s Story, is the first in a powerful series that honors the journey of finding your voice—and knowing where you come from.

She’s building an empire rooted in storytelling, legacy, and love—and she’s just getting started.
